Healthy Diet to Lose Weight FastHere are some bullet proof tips for helping you to lose hip fat and get rid of love handles fast.  Forget about trying to find special foods that burn fat and negative calorie foods.  It’s often more about what we don’t eat than what we do eat.  I’ll also point out that these hot diet tips are just as effective whether you want to lose hip fat, belly fat, love handles, thigh fat or fat from any other part of your body.  The next thing people want to know is what exercise is best for losing hip fat, getting rid of love handles or belly fat etc.  It just does not matter, as you can’t target fat loss on any one particular part of your body, so don’t buy into the hype that exercise “x” will have fat melting away from your hips and not somewhere else on your body or eating certain foods will burn fat on your thighs.  I’ll go into the reasoning behind this a bit later (there are a number of factors I’ve found).  Another hot question is this; “Is exercise more important than diet for weight loss?”  The truth might amaze you.  I’ll give you the answer to these questions shortly, but first let’s look at some food and diet tips that will truly help you to lose hip fat, belly fat, thigh fat, arm fat or body fat faster than you’ve been able to before.

To some of you these may seem a bit extreme, but I can assure you they work and not only that they are perfectly safe and healthy which is most important.  I’m not suggesting you continue with these particular strategies forever, but they will certainly kick start your fat loss.  If you do chose to continue though, you will only have faster and better results – it is completely safe and healthy to do so.

Lose Hip Fat FastTip 1: Fruit is Healthy BUT – Eat it before 4pm.  There’s so much confusion over this wonder food group.  Does is help you lose weight or does is make you gain weight?  Fruit is very healthy, however if you’re wanting to give your weight loss efforts a big boost, try limiting your fruit consumption to with your breakfast and morning snack and lunch.  Once you’re pastmidday stick to vegetables (raw or cooked) for your afternoon snack and evening meal.  Try raw carrot sticks or sliced bell peppers with almond butter for your afternoon snack.  When it comes to evening meal time, lean steak or a piece of salmon (or other oily fish such as tuna) or lean chicken breast over sautéed green vegetables and a salad on the side is perfect.  You won’t be missing your servings of fruit this way, but you’ll be getting them much earlier in the day.

Ways to Lose Hip FatTip 2: A Wedge of Lemon in your Water.  The liver can be seen as the fat burning organ so it’s essential to keep it operating at an optimal level.  Lemon is great for keeping the liver clear of toxins and therefore helping it to do its job properly.  Keeping clear of processed foods and other undesirables will help to keep your liver working well, but the addition of fresh lemon will make it really sparkle!  Keeping the bowel moving is also crucial for weight loss as if the food can’t make its way out, your weight loss efforts will be severely hampered.  Try adding a shake of cayenne pepper to your drinks to keep things moving.

Tip 3:  Cancel Dairy and Wheat for at Least 2 Weeks.  Whoa there!  How will I cope?!  This will get you the weight loss results you’ve been seeking though.  This really works.  Often without you realizing, dairy and wheat products cause an inflammatory response in your body and make it darn near impossible to move stubborn fat deposits from your body.  Where’s the dairy hiding??  Any cheeses or milk products should be avoided for a couple of weeks.  Believe it or not, eggs are fine and so is a little butter.  Neither of these will bring the fat burning to a halt.  As for wheat, if you think you can’t lose weight and want to really move things along in a hurry you will need to avoid most breads, pastas, crackers and cereals.  This is where the wheat is lurking.

Tip 4:  Cancel Grains for at Least 2 Weeks.  Sounds like I’m getting a bit carried away here but this is what I’ve found to really work.  If you’ve got a beach holiday planned in 2 weeks and the bikini doesn’t fit, or your wedding is just round the corner or you just want to burn the fat faster – go without grains until you reach your target weight.  This is not to say that grains in themselves are unhealthy – grains are healthy!  If you really want results fast sometimes you can speed up your weight loss by eliminating them.  In the grains department are quinoa, spelt, rice, oatmeal and millet.  All of them are healthy additions to an eating plan but a few weeks without will hugely improve your body’s ability to get rid of fat.

Before leaping for seriously dangerous fat burning supplements, try some of these strategies and stick to them.  Action the above tips and you walk onto the beach feeling great.

Diet Vs Exercise

To answer the question “Is exercise more important than diet for weight loss?” the answer is in fact that diet is far more important and will have a much more profound effect on your ability to lose weight than the amount of exercise you do.  Exercise has many benefits and you should try to do as much as possible, but it is mostly useless for fat loss (in spite of all the advertising for fitness machines to lose hip fat and belly fat that tells us otherwise).  What exercise will do is help to shape your body, lift your spirits and keep you feeling mentally and physically well.  If you’re interested in understanding more about this, read this article on why exercise won’t make you thin.

One little known secret to help you lose hip fat

I started this blog to help people who’d had similar weight loss difficulties to me and were struggling to lose hip fat. In a bid to add value to you, I want to share a little known secret with you that can get you losing hip fat faster than you can imagine. Keep reading, because this will get you very excited.  It’s one of the biggest weight loss secrets.

Remember I’ve made reference in this blog elsewhere to the common advice we’re given about how to lose weight quickly and it goes something like this:

Eat less calories and do more exercise, because weight loss (or gain) equals total calories consumed minus total calories burned through exercise. If you’ve burned more calories than you’ve consumed, then you lose weight right?

This is of course true, but it’s a simplistic in its approach at best and very confusing. These are the reasons why. Firstly, if we look at the caloric value of exercise (the number of calories a given exercise conducted for a given amount of time by a person of a given weight) in quick fat loss we’d have good reason to lose hope a bit. Stick with me through this basic math. There are 4082 calories in a pound of fat, therefore we need to create a deficit or burn at least that many in order to lose a pound of fat from our bodies. The amount of energy required for a 220 pound man to climb 26 flights of stairs or about 100m is around 24 calories (half a small cookie like an Oreo!) or 100 Kilojoules (if you want the math, email me or look it up on the internet). Running 26 miles or so (a marathon) might burn around 2500 so as we can see, it’s taking a lot of exercise to move that one pound of fat! *Sigh*

How can an Olympic swimmer consume upwards of 11,000 calories a day and still not gain weight? Remember that in order to burn the excess above their BMA, they’d need to be swimming upwards of 9 hours per day doing a butterfly stroke at a competitive pace. Even Olympic swimmers don’t do this! So, once again how is it possible to consume these quantities of calories? The answer will help you lose body fat fast. Most people studying the calories in and calories out equation, only consider Basal Metabolic Rate and exercise as the means to send calories out. They forget that the human body can also “excrete” calories through heat. In the case of the swimmer, the secret comes down to what is known as the “thermal load” of water. Water conducts heat, well over 22 times more effectively than air. To put it simply, try and do a portion of any exercise you do, in water and preferably cooler water. You burn far more calories in water due to the thermal load as you do in air. This one secret alone will help lose hip fat faster than before.

The first five steps on your journey to lose hip fat

In this post I’m going to share with you five steps or tips to get you started with your quest to lose hip fat.

Do I really look like that naked?

The first tip is one that many weight loss plans (and weight loss psychologists) use to assist with quick fat loss.  It all starts with photographing yourself with a digital camera before you start any weight loss plan.  Take photos from the front, back and the sides.  You don’t need to be naked, but either wear underwear or a bathing suit.  If you don’t have someone to take the photos for you, put your camera on timer and get snapping.  Once you’ve done this, place your most unflattering picture somewhere you can’t avoid seeing it like on your bathroom mirror or the refrigerator.  This isn’t necessarily going to be pleasant, but remember the goal is to lose body fat fast and unless we accept the truth and have some sort of starting point, losing hip fat will remain a dream.  I hated seeing the pre weight loss photos everywhere, but boy does it keep you focused and accountable!

I don’t eat that much! ….. do I?

When it comes to the psychology of weight loss, this next tip is probably number one when it comes to how to lose weight quickly.  Once again it involves the digital camera or your camera phone.  For the next 4-6 days photograph everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) you put into your mouth (other than water).  Ideally this should include one day of the weekend too.  This method beats a written food diary hands down as the camera never lies and it’s easy to photograph everything quickly.  It was a real eye opener for me, and I’m sure it will be for you too.  We become very oblivious or forget what we’ve consumed over a week.  If anyone asks you how to lose weight quickly, this tip alone, taking photos of food consumed will help get rid of love handles!  So you can keep a track of portion size, put your hand in the photo for reference and for extra leverage and accountability, post your photos on your Face book account or similar for your friends to see.  I felt a bit embarrassed, but it really made me want to change and the words of support I got from my friends was very encouraging.

Find a like minded competitor

Sometimes the stick is stronger than the carrot, so engaging at least one friend, your spouse or a group of work mates in some friendly competition provides a huge motivator for quick fat loss by employing the competitive drive and a bit of guilt, fear  and shame to your gain.  If you’re going to use this technique, compete over total inches lost or body fat percentage dropped.  Weight loss only is not the best option.

What are my vital statistics (measurements)?

This is one of the important exercises to lose hip fat and only takes a moment, so don’t put it off.  Do it now.  Get a basic measuring tape/dress makers tape and measure yourself (or get a friend to help) in the following six places:

  • Upper arms -  this measurement is taken around the upper arm half way between elbow and shoulder (mid bicep)
  • Waist measurement – take this horizontally around the tummy button
  • Hip measurement – take this at the widest point between the legs and the tummy button
  • Thigh measurements – take measurements for your thigh on each side half way between hip and knee (mid thigh)

Once you’re done, add up all six numbers and you get your total inches.  There’s no point in learning how to lose hip fat fast if you don’t know where you’re starting from.  It’s really important your actions and progress measurable.  Remember don’t focus on only pounds lost as you will find that you build muscle during this process.  Muscle weights 3 times as much as fat.  The good news is that muscle only takes up one third of the space of fat, so as you build muscle through good nutrition, your total inches will drop.

Overweight and Unhappy – Decision Time

My aim on this website is to help you lose hip fat and provide you with some useful tips and the tools that helped me achieve quick fat loss.  I’ve battled with weight for most of my life and know what impact it has, not only physically, but also mentally.  As I continued to gain weight, my self confidence became totally eroded and my relationship started to suffer terribly.  My husband never gave me reason to worry, but because I felt unattractive, I was always worried he was looking at other women and would leave me.

In this blog, I will share with you how I overcame my weight and confidence issues and how to lose weight quickly, but in particular how to lose weight from the hips, as this was an area that continually plagued me.

There are so many different diets out there, all offering easy weight loss and I have had varying levels of success with them.  I’ve lost weight and made big changes, all just to put it back on (and then some) over subsequent months.

I wanted something where I wasn’t tied into purchasing special meals (like Weight Watchers™) and once I’d made my decision to lose weight, I wanted to lose body fat fast.  Many of the diet plans like Jenny Craig™ and Weight Watchers™ involve quite slow progress over a long period of time and require the purchase of specific foods from the company which are really expensive.

By confession I’m not really an exercise junkie and I just don’t have time to keep up rigorous training routines.  I think this was my downfall on some plans.  What I have found out since though is that losing weight has nothing to do with jogging.  There is no such thing as exercises to lose hip fat!!  The secret of how to lose hip fat fast lies more in what you put in your mouth than any other variable and this doesn’t mean you have to adhere to a restricted calorie diet and live life starving!  Now I understand how to eat, I’m actually never hungry, which is a real change.  When I was overweight, it seemed the more food I ate, the more hungry I got.  I’m sure you can relate to that!

I made reference above to “making a decision to lose weight”, and this is very important.  I’d always blamed my genes and really believed my future was predetermined.  I’ve now learned that being predisposed to being overweight is not a prison sentence and I’m not actually predestined to be fat.  I can control it, but I had to make a decision.  Losing hip fat became a must have, and not a nice to have.  Before hand I had insufficient reason to follow through.  Once you’ve made that decision, how to get rid of love handles is something you’ll be teaching your friends as they ask about the new you because you really can lose hip fat easily and fast.

Does Fat Make You Fat?

Hey everyone, thought you might be interested in this video from Isabel de los Rios from the Diet Solution Programe answering the question “Does fat make you fat?”  Let’s face it we’re continually bombarded with information telling us that it’s the fat we’re eating that’s making us fat.  As Isabel explains, this is in fact not entirely correct, and whether you’re wanting to lose hip fat, love handles, tummy fat or thigh fat, eating a healthy dose of the correct kinds of fats will actually have you losing fat quicker than if you were to stick to the low fat diet alternative.  Eating fat doesn’t actually make you fat, but it really depends on what type of fat your eating.

Avoid High Fructose Corn Syrup to Lose Hip Fat

Hey guys.  I found this very interesting video from Isabel at the Diet Solution Program discussing the pitfalls of high fructose corn syrup and why it might be sabotaging your weight loss program.

High fructose corn syrup has been in the media a lot lately with commercials telling us that it’s actually good for us and okay to eat.  The commercials are saying that the product is natural because it comes from corn.  There is some truth to this according to Isabel, however in order to get the end product it goes through large amounts of chemical processing, ultimately creating a product which is no longer natural.  The end result is toxins and chemicals into the body which has an overwhelming affect on your liver and other internal organs.  When your liver becomes overwhelmed, it becomes very difficult to lose weight.

Hey, Sarah here.  I just thought I’d write a quick post on the myth of spot reduction when it comes to weight loss and particularly losing hip fat.  I’ve been getting a lot of emails lately from people asking what the best exercises are when it comes to how to lose hip fat. It seems that this myth of spot reduction is still alive and well today.  I admit that my blog is entitled “lose hip fat fast” (focusing on the hips) but that is because the hips and thighs is where I tend to store fat, so that is my focus.

What is Spot Reduction?

Spot reduction refers to the reducing or getting rid of fat from a particular area of the body, whether it be the tummy, hips, thighs, arms or whichever area plagues you the most, through exercising a particular group of muscles or through a particular diet.  The biggest proponents of this myth are marketers who will have you believe that by blasting your abdominal muscles with their latest gizmo or gadget, you will melt the fat straight off of your tummy.  Sound familiar?

What is The Truth About Spot Reduction?

I think this video sums it up nicely if you have the time.

The truth is, spot reduction is a myth and a fallacy.  If spot reduction worked, you would expect to see a lower fat percentage in the playing arms of professional tennis players right?  Studies have shown however that although the playing arm is more muscular, as you would expect, the skin fold (fat) readings for each arm are identical.  When you lose weight, you lose fat from all over your body at the same time.  Some of us are just more prone to storing it in certain areas compared to others.  If you are large around the hips, in order to get rid of love handles, you need to get rid of body fat from all over.  How is this achieved?  Through a smart eating plan that works for you and if you’re into exercise, then combining nutrition with exercise.  Are you going to do exercises that target the hips?  NO!  The exercises that will give you the most over all fat loss, are those that use the biggest muscles in the body, and the body - namely the leg muscles.  Therefore running, walking, squats, lunges cycling etc etc will burn the most fat over all your body.

Targeting specific muscles merely tones those muscles and doesn’t address the fat issue.  If all you do is work out your abs, you’ll develop a lovely toned set of abs hidden under layers of fat that no one can see.  The quickest way to a great set of abs is not doing millions of sit ups, but is reducing your body fat through nutrition and exercise to such a low percentage that the muscle definition is visible through the skin.  In the same sense, doing exercises that focus on muscles around the hip area will tone those muscles, but in general do absolutely nothing to rid you of the hip fat you so desperately want to lose.

What About Specific Foods?

The same applies to food.  There is no one food that will help you lose fat in a certain area of your body, just like there’s no one food that makes you fat in a certain part of your body and not another.  It is all marketing non-sense, preying on uninformed members of the population, desperate to deal with their weight issues. Where you store fat predominantly, is determined by your genetics.

Ok, that’s my little rant over with.  At one time, I would have believed spot reduction works but I’ve got myself informed a bit better now.  I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but most of the information we are bombarded with through advertisements is just plain misleading, but do people still believe it?  Yes they do.

Hey guys, I just read this interesting article on the NY Times site on the long term risks of liposuction.  You need to read this before you consider such drastic measures in your attempt to lose hip fat and thigh fat!

There are numerous advertisements and websites for plastic surgery with as much photographic evidence as you could want of the amazing transformations achieved through liposuction surgery.  One minute the hips are bulging, the next they’re gone, making liposuction look like an easy and trans formative solution to stubborn fat.  In the United States, liposuction is now the most popular cosmetic surgery procedure performed with approx half a million procedures performed annually.

But, is liposuction a long term solution to fat loss?  Does the fat come back, and if so, does it come back to where it was removed from?  The latest research reveals some disturbing news.

Drs. Robert H. Eckel and Teri L. Hernandez of the University of Colorado, have recently completed a study with results showing that all of the fat came back after it had been suctioned out.  In many cases it took up to a year for the fat to return but it all came back.  Dr Ekel reported that rather than the fat returning to the hips and thighs where it was removed from, it in fact was redistributed around the upper abdominal region, and partially around the shoulders and triceps (area at the back of the upper arm).  The body always grows new fat cells to replace the ones it loses through surgery.

The article doesn’t specifically mention it but to me it’s concerning that the fat reappears around the abdomen as it’s known that abdominal fat poses a much greater health risk than fat around the hips or thighs.  I’m interested to hear what your thoughts are.  You can check out the original NY Times Liposuction article here.

Hey guys, this is a great video by Dr Oz and although not specifically on how to lose hip fat or how to get rid of love handles, it provides some pretty good insights into the dangers of a large stomach and why you’d want to get rid of belly fat.

In this video on weight loss, Dr Oz states that the most common question he is asked about is diet.  His assertion is that the problem is, conventional diets are dependent on will power and relates this to trying to hold your breath indefinitely under water – biology always beats will power.  No matter how much you want to adhere to various crazy diets, it won’t work.  You can however nudge the biology blubber in the right direction.

You first have to work out what you’re measuring and what success looks like.  Believe it or not, your weight is not the most important thing, it is your waist size which is the best predictor of health.  Ideally your waist size (measured around your belly button) should be no more than half your height.  Refer to the chart below.

To give an example of the calculations to work out your ideal waist size, let’s assume you’re five feet and seven inches tall.  There are 12 inches in a foot, so multiply 12 x 5 which equals 60 then add on the last 7 inches giving us 67 inches.  Divide 67 by 2 to give 33 1/2 inches.  Therefore your waist measurement across your belly button should be no more than 33 1/2 inches.  You get the idea anyway

If it is over the half your height ratio it indicates you have too much belly fat which can lead to serious health issues.  Bad food choices lead to a fat liver which in turn leads to a large amount of abdominal fat (omentum) around the organs, causing coronary artery disease, diabetes and hypertension.  This high level of belly fat poisons the liver causing high cholesterol, and in turn squeezes the kidneys, poisoning the ability of insulin to work, which then causes diabetes.

For a woman of 200 lbs or less, to get rid of belly fat to the tune of 10 lbs reduces the risk of diabetes, heart disease and arthritis by a half which is huge!

What are the Weight Loss Action Steps?

  1. Start your morning out with a high fibre slow carb breakfast every day.
  2. Make sure any snacks you have are smaller than a fist and wash them down with water.
  3. Don’t consume any food within 3 hours of bed time.
  4. And lastly, make sure you move for at least 30 minutes per day.

While you are trying to lose hip fat, get rid of love handles or lose belly fat, track your weight weekly, and measure your waist monthly.

Lastly, remember that if you make a mistake, don’t beat yourself up about it, it’s no big deal!  Just get back on track quickly.  Smart dieting is a marathon.  True success will come by forgetting you’re on a program.

Peel eggs fast for your lose hip fat slow carb meal (Timothy Ferriss)

Hey there, Sarah here again. I’ve just been watching this very cool video by Timothy Ferriss (author of The 4-Hour Body: An Uncommon Guide to Rapid Fat-Loss, Incredible Sex, and Becoming Superhuman) on how to easily peel a hard boiled egg. To lose hip fat fast we need to adhere to a high protein diet and hard boiled eggs can make up a part of that diet. As Tim points out in his video though, if you hard boil the egg properly they’re near impossible to peel. He’s done the research again (courtesy of Dr Michael Eades) and come up with an ingenious method of quickly peeling a hard boiled egg to add into your low carb, slow carb, lose hip fat diet.

As per the instructions in the video:

1. Firstly boil the eggs at a slow boil for about 12 minutes in a pot with about 2 inches of water above the eggs.

2. Then you cool them quickly with cold water and/or ice etc

3. This is the key so pay attention – as you put in the cold water/ice mix to cool, throw in a teaspoon of baking soda into the water. This raises the ph level of the water (lowers the acidity level) and reduces adherence of the egg shell to the egg itself.

4. Once the eggs are cool, tap each end of the egg on the countertop to crush the shell a little and then pick a hole in it.

5. Once you have a hole in each end of the shell, place the egg to your mouth and literally blow the egg out the end of the shell!

It’s as easy as that folks to have healthy high protein hard boiled eggs in your slow carb meal plan.

Slow Carb Breakfast to lose hip fat in 3 minutes (Timothy Ferriss)

Hey guys, Sarah here.  I just wanted to draw your attention to this video by Timothy Ferris (author of The Four Hour Body: An Uncommon Guide to Rapid Fat-Loss, Incredible Sex and Becoming Super Human) which is going to help you lose hip fat really fast.  I’ve made mention in previous posts about the slow carb diet and this video takes away any excuses to get your day started with a great low carb, high protein breakfast with high nutrient value.  The slow carb diet truly is the answer to quick fast loss and you can get this breakfast all ready to eat in 3 minutes.

The ingredients are:

  • Egg Whites (in the video Timothy uses Eggology, but you can use Egg Beaters or any other brand)
  • Flax Seed oil
  • Salsa (South West brand in the video) containing corn, black beans and more.  This salsa only contains 2 grams of carbohydrates per table spoon.
  • Lemon juice
  • Frozen chopped spinach 12 -13 ounces

Instructions:

Place 2-3 eggs worth into a microwave container with a lid and add a little salt (if you put the salt in at the beginning you will use less) and ground black pepper.  Some research shows ground black pepper can increase insulin sensitivity which is good.  Leave the lid on the bowl open a crack!

Place the spinach in a similar bowl and cook at the same time as the eggs for 2 minutes on High (depending on your microwave)
